How to Set Up ElecBrakes

Which ElecBrakes Do I Choose?

Quick Start (Most People Only Need This)

Hitch trailer • cross chains • plug in 7-pin
Headlights ON to power controller
Open ElecBrakes app & connect
Press brake pedal • see red circle
Set gain: empty ≈40% • loaded 80–100%
Test lights & brakes before driving
Pairing — EB2 (NFC + Bluetooth)
  1. Open the ElecBrakes app.
  2. Hold phone near the EB2 for NFC prompt → tap Connect.
  3. If you prefer manual pairing: when prompted, tap CancelAdd Manually → select your EB2.
  4. Press the vehicle brake pedal — app shows a red circle when braking.
Pairing — ELBC2000 (Bluetooth)
  1. Open the ElecBrakes app near the controller.
  2. The device will appear automatically — select it to connect.
  3. Press brake pedal to verify connection (look for the red circle).
Brake Programs & Gain
  • Empty trailer: start around 40% gain.
  • Loaded trailer: set 80–100%(adjust so braking feels even with the car).
  • Fine-tune forward / minimum / reverse / override responses in Settings → Program.
Override Braking (Manual)
  1. Tap the blue circle on the app home → it turns red.
  2. Adjust with +/ buttons; tap again to stop override.
Use with Android Auto / Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto: USB or wireless → open ElecBrakes on the car display → use Previous/Next + on-screen controls.
  • CarPlay: USB or wireless → open ElecBrakes → adjust via steering wheel / touch controls or Siri.
Troubleshooting (Fast Fixes)
  • No connection: Headlights ON; unplug/replug 7-pin; check adaptors; ensure only one phone/remote is paired at a time.
  • Brakes weak/strong: tweak gain in small steps and re-test at 40–50 km/h.
  • Override not working: confirm app is connected to the correct controller.

If Pairing Fails — Do This

One device at a time

The controller (EB2/ELBC series) connects to one device at a time. Disconnect other phones/remotes first.

  • Force-close the ElecBrakes app on any other phone, or in App → Devices tap the orange icon to disconnect.
  • On your phone: Settings → Bluetooth → remove old ElecBrakes entries, then retry pairing.
Power & lighting sanity check
  1. Unplug & re-plug both trailer plugs and the EBC Deutsch connector.
  2. Ignition ON + headlights ON(not AUTO/DRL only).
  3. Check tail/brake lights (press pedal → dim to bright). Replace dull/blown globes.
  4. With brake pedal held, listen for a faint buzz at the hubs (indicates output).
App reset path
  1. Install any pending phone updates; restart.
  2. Uninstall/reinstall the ElecBrakes app.
  3. Open the app → pick your model from the device list and follow prompts.
  4. EB2 tip: If NFC prompt shows but you want Bluetooth: tap CancelAdd Manually.
Still disconnects when releasing the pedal?
